Cultural notes

Arriving at South Korea's main international gateway, Incheon International Airport (인천국제공항 - Incheon Gukje Gonghang), is often the first major cultural shock for visitors, but in the best way possible. Consistently ranked as one of the best and most efficient airports in the world, the experience here is remarkably silent, highly automated, and incredibly swift. As soon as you step off the plane, you will encounter the immigration area (입국 심사대 - Ipguk simsa-dae). The lines move quickly, and customs (세관 - Segwan) procedures are mostly digitized. Once you reach the baggage claim area (수하물 찾는 곳 - Suhamul channeun got), you will likely find that your luggage is already waiting for you. To get to central Seoul, you have two excellent choices. The first is the AREX (Airport Railroad Express), a dedicated train that connects the airport to Seoul Station in less than 50 minutes. The second, and arguably more comfortable option if you have heavy luggage, is the Airport Limousine Bus (공항 리무진 버스 - Gonghang rimujin beoseu). These are not stretch limousines, but rather premium, incredibly comfortable coach buses with massive leather reclining seats that drop you off directly in front of major hotels across the city. Additionally, you do not need to worry about being disconnected; the airport offers blazing fast, free Wi-Fi everywhere, and you can easily pick up a pre-ordered SIM card or portable Wi-Fi router right outside the arrival gates. The sheer efficiency of the airport perfectly introduces you to Korea's "Palli-Palli" (hurry up) culture, ensuring your trip starts without a single hitch.
